GAME OF THRONES returns to TV screens later this week and if you’re getting a little excited, here are some brilliant recipes inspired by the show for you to try.

They’re ideal if you’re hosting a viewing party for the first episode and fancy impressing your guests.

Seafish has created these recipes fit for a king – whoever that may end up being!

Everything from White Walkers and Weirwood Trees to The Wall have all made an appearance, and all cleverly made out of fish.

A Mackerel Iron Throne (of course!), Tuna Drogon and Braavos Seafood Platter also feature in the fishy twist on the hit HBO series.

Each dish takes less than 30 minutes to prepare and will impress even the most hardened GOT superfan – though the lack of blood and gore may disappoint a few!

Game of Thrones returns on Sunday, July 16, and will be the seventh series of the popular fantasy series.

Weirwood tree

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees. Bake the fish for 10-12 minutes until cooked.
  2. Arrange the spring onions in the shape of a tree trunk and branches.
  3. Flake the fish into pieces, placing the flakes as ‘leaves’ on the tree.
  4. Lightly sprinkle the paprika over the fish.

Braavos seafood platter

Enjoy a taste of Braavos with our Game of Thrones inspired delicious shellfish platter.

Species: oysters, cockles, clams, langoustines, mussels

Type of dish: starter, dinner, party, game of thrones

Serves: 4

Time: 30 mins

400g mussels

1 shallot, finely chopped

Red wine vinegar

Mayonnaise

Lemon wedges

Crusty bread

Method

  1. Put the clams, cockles and mussels into a large enough saucepan with water, putting the lids on and cooking over a medium heat until the shellfish have opened (roughly 5 mins). Discard any that have not opened.
  2. Place the langoustine in cold well-salted water, bring to the boil and boil for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Shuck the oysters, leaving them in the shell. Alternatively, your fishmonger will be happy to do this for you.
  4. Make the vinegar dressing by combing the vinegar and shallots.
  5. Arrange the shellfish on a platter to serve, along with pots of the vinegar dressing, mayonnaise, lemon wedges and sliced crusty bread.

  2. Reheat the mash and spoon into a piping bag.

Fish finger wall

Join the Night’s Watch by building your own fish finger wall…

1 sheet nori seaweed

Tiny broccoli florets

Method

  1. Cook the fish fingers according to packet instructions. Steam the broccoli until cooked.
  2. Arrange the fish fingers in a row, and then build up the wall finger by finger. Secure with cocktail sticks if necessary.
  3. Cut a shape from the seaweed sheet to resemble Castle Black and another strip for the lift shaft. Place these against the wall.
  4. Arrange a few of the broccoli ‘trees’ in front of the wall.

Tuna Drogon

Tuck into another Game of Thrones inspired dish – Tuna Drogon!

Species: Tuna

Type of dish: lunch, snack, party, Game of Thrones

Serves: 2

Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

2 tins tuna, drained

1 red pepper, deseeded and sliced

1 orange pepper, deseeded and sliced

1 yellow pepper, deseeded and sliced

2 red chillies, halved and deseeded

1 plum cherry tomato, cut in half

1 fresh coconut, broken into chunks

1 black olive, cut in half

Method

  1. Carefully flake the tuna and arrange the flakes like scales in the shape of a dragon’s head. Arrange the fresh coconut in the mouth of the dragon as teeth.
  2. Half the chillies and use them to form the dragon’s horns, using any offcuts to form the spines for the neck.
  3. Place half a tomato cut side up for the eye and place a slice of the black olive for the nostril.
  4. Arrange the sliced peppers to form fire breathing from the dragon’s mouth.

Mackerel iron throne
