Try picking your own pumpkins this Halloween at these great Scottish patches

It's a pumpkin paradise at Arnprior Farm this October.
It's a pumpkin paradise at Arnprior Farm this October.

Aside from the plentiful sweeties, one of the best parts of Halloween is going out and buying a pumpkin to carve up with the kids, family or friends.

But this year, why not add more pumpkin fun into the mix and go pick your own?

A great day out for all the family, here’s our pick of great Scottish patches for plentiful pumpkin picking this October:

Arnprior Farm, Stirlingshire

The McEwen family of Arnprior Farm are ready for Halloween. (Arnprior Farm)

Known as Scotland’s premier pumpkin patch, Arnprior Farm just outside Stirling are opening up their patch to the public this weekend.

They have over 7000 pumpkins in a variety of shapes, colours and sizes ripe for picking, carving or turning into a hearty pie or soup.

In 2017 more than 6000 people visited the farm, and the 2018 experience is set to be even bigger than last year due to the hot dry summer, which has made way for a pumpkin boom.

Craigie’s Farm, South Queensferry

Craigie’s Farm has a whole host of different pumpkins on offer, including a blue variety.

As well as pumpkins, there’s an array of other autumnal fruits for visitors to pick themselves.

The farm also has a canine café for pooches and opportunities to visit animals from pygmy goats to ponies.

Cairnie Fruit Farm, Cupar, Fife

There’s a whole host of pumpkin varieties at Cairnie Fruit Farm. (Cairnie Fruit Farm).

Like Craigie’s Farm, Cairnie Fruit Farm has a plethora of fruits available for picking as well as pumpkins.

Cairnie is also known for its mega maze, which grows up to eight feet tall.
