Trigger Point review: Cool Vicky McClure goes like a bomb

Line Of Duty, according to some, peaked at the climax of the third series when “Dot” Cottan staged a daring armed escape from an AC-12 interview room.

Vicky McClure’s cop promptly got tooled up and chased down Cottan through the city streets.

Thrilling for some viewers, preposterous for others.

The writers of Trigger Point are clearly in the former group and have created a series where McClure runs around wearing body armour shouting police jargon into radios.

Her bomb disposal officer, looking cool in sunglasses wasn’t so laid-back when she found a disturbing item in a toilet. Usually that’s a job for a plumber but this was an explosive device.

So set off a Very Bad Day for McClure’s cop as she dances to the tune of a mad bomber.

Her partner looked at photos of his estranged wife at one point and talked about how he was keen to reconcile. This is a TV death sentence, second only to coughing up blood into a hankie, and so it came to pass moments later in an explosive twist.

Trigger Point looks set to be a collection of those scenes in action thrillers where someone with a pair of pliers frantically asks if they should cut the red or the blue wire, which might be tough to maintain for six episodes.

McClure is magnetic, though. She looks to be having a blast.
