VIDEO: ScotRail reveal glimpse of newly branded InterCity trains

SCOTRAIL have revealed new ‘seven cities’ branding on a fleet of InterCity high-speed trains set to be introduced to the network in the coming months.

The rail operators say the trains will transform travel on Scotland’s inter-city routes.

The high-speed trains will start to enter service later this year, beginning with the Aberdeen – Edinburgh route in May.

They’ll then start to be seen on routes between the capital, Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Perth, Stirling, and Glasgow.

ScotRail Alliance high-speed train project manager Chris Tait said: “We are delighted to reveal the new branding for our high-speed trains, inspired by iconic landmarks in Scotland’s seven cities.

“These trains will transform travel on Scotland’s inter-city routes providing faster journeys, more seats and better services – all part of our plan to build the best railway Scotland has ever had.”

The ‘new’ trains are actually revamped former Great Western Railway rolling stock.

The Intercity 125 Class 43 was first introduced in the late seventies, with some estimated to have an incredible 10 million miles on the clock.

Abellio has leased 26 of them for 12 years, spending around £54 million on refurbishments to the well-travelled trains.

Journey times are expected to be shorter, with improvements in comfort, seat availability and luggage space.

Additional catering facilities including a galley and buffet area will also be provided.
