Beauty boss: The secrets of my success? It’s simple… cleanse, cleanse, cleanse

Serums leave skin glowing

We all have our own beauty routines and rituals, but that doesn’t stop us from being curious (OK, nosy) about what products other women use to look and feel their best.

Here, we peek inside beauty entrepreneur Laura Porter’s make-up bag to discover her skincare secrets, learned over decades working with celebrity clients.

Kickstart your AM

“It’s really important to clean your skin in the morning, even if you have showered or bathed the night before,” said Porter, who founded beauty business FAB in 2009, and recently launched her own skincare line.

“A morning cleanse helps to ensure you wash away any dirt and grime attracted during the night sleep. For example, sleeping on your hands can leave bacteria on the skin, as can sweat, which builds up on pillow cases and bedding.

“I use FAB Before You Cleanse (£29, fabsalons.co.uk) in the morning to kickstart my day – the smell is so zesty and fresh, it’s an instant wake-up call!”

Barely there

So, what does everyday make-up look like for a beauty guru?

“I don’t wear make-up on a daily basis, but if I do use anything it would be the Bali Body’s BB cream (£25.95, uk.balibodyco.com),” explained Porter. “The colour is incredible and the formula has a very light texture on the skin – you wouldn’t even know I was wearing anything, it just evens out the skintone.

“I love having a serum on throughout the day to give my skin a natural glow. I would normally use OptaDerm’s Profound Facial Serum, which feels incredibly light on the skin, but I’m currently developing my own serum. It’s going to be a real game-changer.”

Skincare saviours

Having created a skincare range, it’s no surprise Porter turns to her own products for daily cleansing, but also adds a few must-have formulas into the mix.

She explained: “At night, I use Before You Cleanse again, then double cleanse using our Daily Cleanser.

“I then use a little Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream Moisturiser (from £15, dermalogica.co.uk) or a Vitamin C serum depending on how my skin feels.”

Added extras

Porter continued: “I use the FAB skincare chemical peel once a week – it’s packed with active ingredients including gylocolic, lactic and citric acids, so it leaves skin feeling super clean and hydrated.

“I loved making my own formulas. Ensuring we used only the best quality was very important to me.”
