SPONSORED: Discover new digitally-enabled retirement housing in Newton Mearns

Post Thumbnail

Set amongst beautiful grounds in the south side of the city, the cottageHOMES Crookfur retirement estate has provided accommodation, care and support to over 1,400 retail retirees since 1964.

To continually improve the services on offer and enhance the wellbeing of residents, the estate is currently undergoing a large-scale redevelopment with the introduction of 46 digitally-enabled retirement flats available from autumn 2019 in Newton Mearns, on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Connected living

The new homes can be adapted to meet changing needs and will incorporate a digital package giving residents choice and control  over the support they require. With greater safety and security provided, this will help to both maintain and enhance health, wellbeing and independence.

The package can include:

  • A digital carephone which will allow residents to access support from staff
  • Motion sensors around the home (where required)
  • A digital assistant to set reminders for medication and appointments
  • A smart doorbell to enhance security
  • Smart sockets and light switches.

As well as contacting staff, the carephone will enable residents to video call friends and relatives (which can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation), and provide information about events and activities on the estate or in the local community. Residents will also be able to access a range of information including restaurant menus on the estate, local news and contact details for nearby amenities.

Lifestyle

The estate is currently home to circa 90 residents who benefit from a number of facilities:

  • Dedicated estate manager and on-site support and care team
  • Full-time maintenance staff
  • 24-hour emergency system
  • Smart Space café
  • Restaurant
  • Smart TV and digital products the residents can use
  • Community hall for events and activities
  • Hairdressing salon
  • 24-hour access to support and maintenance services.

The estate is close to public transport and has easy access to motorway links. The Avenue Shopping Centre is a short walk away with access to supermarkets, a range of shops, restaurants, banks and a post office. Other recreational facilities are also close by including parks, golf clubs, bowling clubs, and health and fitness centres.
