Och, aye, the accent was on Kieran Hodgson, the noo!

KIERAN Hodgson thought he’d put the accent on success as the new boy in hit sitcom Two Doors Down – and failed miserably.

“I thought as it’s Scottish I should do a Scots accent for my audition,” Kieran told iN10.

“But the problem is that I can do a few words but when I do a sentence it starts sounding like Glasgow and ends up somewhere like the Black Isle!”

Fortunately, it was decided that as new character Gordon is an outsider, it would fit nicely for West Yorkshire-born Kieran to use his own accent instead.

Two Doors Down, having originally started as a one-off on Hogmanay 2013, has gone from strength to strength.

The third series, with Kieran as a new regular, starts in January and this Christmas special has been given a prized Boxing Day slot in the BBC’s festive schedules.

It sees put-upon couple Eric and Beth (Alex Norton and Arabella Weir) hopes for a quiet Christmas dinner scuppered by Cathy and Colin (Doon Mackichan and Jonathan Watson) along with neighbour Christine (Elaine C. Smith) piling in, too.

Gordon’s the boyfriend of Beth and Eric’s son Ian.

Kieran is a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe, with his stand-up routines winning a legion of fans and a host of award nominations beside. And he landed the part in Two Doors Down through being spotted there by the show’s producer.

“I’ve been performing there since I was a student,” says Kieran.

“I love it and plan my whole yeas around it.

“I went along at first thinking the show my friends and I had come up with was the funniest thing ever and we’d soon be selling places out. We soon learned that wasn’t the case.”

Kieran played Ian Lavender, hapless Pike, in The Dad’s Army Story and he admits it was a fabulous experience.

“It was a joy to be involved with something as much-loved as Dad’s Army,” he adds.

“It’s such a part of people’s lives and I’m sure that when I go home over Christmas we’ll find a couple of episodes to watch.”
