BRAVE swimmers will take a dip in Campbeltown Loch on New Year’s Day for a bracing start to 2019.

The sixth annual New Year’s Day Dip at Dalintober Beach in the Kintyre town will help raise funds for the project to restore and maintain the sands.

Organisers hope crowds will gather at the shore, whether they are coming along to take part or just watch on, and that the conditions will be as pleasant as previous years.

With optional fancy dress, dippers can also raise money for charities of their choice through sponsorship.

This summer, and with funds raised from previous New Year dips, The Dalintober Beach Regeneration Group was able to go some way to restoring the 50-year-old beach to its former glory.

A man-made attraction, it had been sixteen years since sand had been added and at least three decades since there was an annual top-up.

July saw 150 tonnes of sand from a local quarry laid down to provide locals with a place to enjoy the heatwave.

The group has also raised funds for the beach’s upkeep through a special Kindle book called Dalintober Moon written by crimewriter Denzil Meyrick, who is from Campbeltown.
