SPAIN has withdrawn a European arrest warrant for former Catalan politician and St Andrews University academic Clara Ponsati, who has been fighting extradition from the UK.
Professor Ponsati was arrested by police in Scotland in March.
She faces charges of violent rebellion and misappropriation of public funds over her role in Catalonia’s controversial independence referendum last year.
She denies the charges against her.
On Thursday a Spanish Supreme Court judge dropped his extradition requests for Prof Ponsati and five other Catalan separatist politicians wanted on rebellion charges.
