A FESTIVE Oor Wullie display  takes centre stage in a Borders roundabout’s Christmas makeover.

Local man Stewart Bell has been decorating the roadside in Tweedbank, Galashiels, for over ten years with various characters.

This year it’s the turn of Scotland’s favourite scamp, who has relocated from Auchenshoogle along with his famous bucket!

Stewart told The Sunday Post: “Every year I come up with a new design, something that inspired me, an animal, a Christmas or Disney character.

“This year I came across the Oor Wullie Christmas character and thought that would be ideal for this year.

“I bought a sheet of plywood, drew it, cut it out, painted it and erected it.”

Stewart says he used to put up the decorations in the dark so that no-one saw who the mystery secret Santa was.

But now everyone knows his name and loves the Christmas cheer the display brings.

“Children in the village of Tweedbank love the decorations and the local council convener lives in the village and has thanked me for my public spirited support,” says Stewart.

Unfortunately, several years ago some of the decorations were stolen with only one piece ever recovered.

But any potential thieves won’t get away with it this year.

Stewart reveals: “What isn’t seen by the general public is that it has ‘stolen from Tweedbank Roundabout’ written all over it. If someone does remove it, they would have to repaint the whole thing!”
