Ronnie MacEachen is a midwife by day, foodie by night.

She shares her favourite spots for food and drinks as well as her own original recipes on her Instagram page, @ronsrecipes.

Ronnie lives between Edinburgh and Oban so is well placed to recommend the best places to visit in Scotland.

Ardnamurchan Lighthouse

At the most westerly point of the British mainland, you’ll find the Ardnamurchan lighthouse. I remember being taken here as a little girl and being completely mesmerised by the waves crashing against the dramatic coastline and the possibilities that lay ahead beyond the Atlantic Ocean views.

I have been back many times in my adult life and still feel this way. There is a lot of family history for me in the Ardnamurchan area and despite that, when I’ve taken people who have never been before they still feel the same way I do.

The views make you take a moment to reflect, take a deep breath and enjoy the silence and solitude. The views make the rather bumpy single track road completely worth it. A must visit when in Scotland.

No. 17 The Promenade, Oban

What was supposed to be a rescue mission and a last minute stay turned into one of the best hotel stays I’ve ever had.

This hotel is luxury in every way. The en-suite double room had a coffee machine in it, extra fluffy cozy robes and towels, luxury toiletries and the comfiest beds with crisp, white sheets. The customer service was second to none, especially as I came into the hotel late at night, was incredibly tired and was offered a cup of tea while they made sure they had my room ready.

The food itself was outstanding so I would recommend even just spending the evening in their restaurant if you don’t have time to stay overnight. With breakfast included in your room price, it’s a luxurious start to your day and the perfect end to your stay.

Whenever I’m on the Isle of Mull, I have to visit the Tobermory Fish Company.

If you enjoy seafood you will love the freshest seafood from this family run business. You can order online too which is perfect for me living in Edinburgh. They offer seafood platters for collection and they are sublime, a must purchase if you get the opportunity.
