Aberdeen-based couple Laura and Stuart explore the country in their converted campervan, Gloria.

They aim to showcase all the wonderful places people in the north-east have on their doorstep, as they feel the region is often overlooked.

They converted their campervan in 2020 and love to travel around in her with their golden retriever, Brian.

Slains Castle

Slains Castle is a large imposing ruin that looks directly onto south facing cliffs near Cruden Bay Aberdeenshire. You can walk to it from Cruden Bay harbour, or from the slightly nearer car park at a bend on the A975 which is where we went from. It’s a flat path right out to the castle.

It’s a little spooky, given that it was the castle that Dracula was based on and there is definitely an eerie vibe around the castle. For those into that sort of thing, it would be super scary to explore after dark.

There aren’t really any signposts for the walk, as it is a really dangerous spot, so take care if you are going to visit. Photos don’t do it justice, you have to experience it for yourself.

Portsoy

Lying on the Moray coast between Cullen and Banff you’ll find Portsoy, a quiet and charming port village.

Portsoy is one of the north-east’s most picturesque seaside villages. It has a beautiful harbour and many walking routes to enjoy.

We would highly recommend grabbing coffee and a bite to eat at the lovely Port House Cafe. It’s perfectly placed with a view of the 17th century harbour. Its also dog friendly which is perfect when you want your furry friend to explore with you.

Seafield Arms

Along the stunning north-east Banffshire coastline, you’ll find a hidden gem in the heart of Cullen.

The Seafield Arms is a four star hotel which boasts a cozy Scottish interior. The Findlater Lounge is warmed by an original hand-sculpted fireplace and we love the atmosphere inside. The perfect spot to enjoy an after dinner drink.

We sat outside in the garden area as we had the dog with us. The food was amazing with the seafood platter and sticky toffee pudding being our favourites.
