Ulrika Jonsson avoids chop on Celebrity MasterChef as Aasmah Mir goes home

Broadcaster Aasmah Mir has become the latest star to be eliminated from Celebrity MasterChef after serving up watery stew and under-cooked rice pudding.

The Scottish journalist got the boot from the cooking competition after failing to impress with her dishes, giving a second chance to Ulrika Jonsson, who gave judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace a raw rack of lamb.

Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood, actor Nick Moran and opera singer Lesley Garrett also made it through to the next round.

Mir said: “I knew that I was in trouble because I made a few mistakes, they are fantastic cooks and the standard was so high.”

Jonsson was stunned when she learned she was not getting the chop, saying: “I’m absolutely shocked but mostly hugely relieved. I feel like I’ve been given another chance, hopefully.”

Mir came under fire for her North African fish stew, with Wallace telling her “the texture needs thickening up”, while the bread she served with it was “a bit stodgy.”

The rice pudding also did not hit the mark, with Torode telling  her “It’s still chalky on your teeth.”

Jonsson disappointed judges with her undercooked lamb, which was so raw they could not eat it, but impressed with her rhubarb fool.

Viewers at home were stunned she escaped the chop, with one writing: “What the hell was that, the lamb just about jumped off the plate and back to the field and she goes through”, and another saying: “That seemed very weird and wrong. @AasmahMir should definitely have gone through – edible food should win over raw meat!”
