Scottish League One round-up: Ayr stun Stirling

Stirling Albion 1-3 Ayr United

AYR are the only team with a 100% record in League 1 after a comfortable victory at Forthbank.

Teenage winger Alan Forrest opened the scoring after five minutes when he seized on some poor defending to guide the ball into the empty net.

The 17-year-old, who produced a terrific display, doubled Ayr’s lead 10 minutes after half-time with a terrific finish.

Albion were gifted a way back into the match when Martyn Campbell handled and Gordon Smith slammed home the spot-kick in 66 minutes.

Mark Roberts’ side sealed the points two minutes later when Brian Gilmour scored from close range.

Forfar 2-0 Dunfermline

Dunfermline should have gone ahead through Chigozie Ugwu when he sped clear but screwed his shot wide.

Forfar responded and Dale Hilson saw an effort deflected and Chris Templeman’s shot was blocked by Ryan Scully.

The Loons made the breakthrough in the 57th minute through Hilson’s 25-yarder.

Forfar doubled their lead in the 72nd minute when Darren Dods glanced in a header.

Airdrie 0-2 Peterhead

The match failed to deliver much until after the half-hour. Airdrie’s Watt struck a volley from the edge of the box that Peterhead keeper Smith palmed out but, really, both keepers had little to do.

Three minutes into the second half, Donaldson was given a second yellow card when he held back Parker.

In the 73rd minute, Sharp’s cross found Rogers and he turned the ball past McNeil for the opener.

Minutes later, sub Cox raced on to a Ross long ball forward and poked the ball past McNeil to clinch the points.

Morton 4-0 Stranraer

Morton took the lead when Aberdeen loanee Declan McManus was brought down by keeper David Mitchell in the box, who was sent off. McManus sent sub keeper Chris Fahey the wrong way.

Stefan McCluskey hit No 2 for Ton, drilling a low strike into the bottom corner.

The home side added a third before half-time as McManus stroked the ball between Fahey and his near post.

Morton made it four when a corner was cleared out to Connor Pepper who hammered home a 30-yard volley.

The visitors lost another player when Barry Russell was given a second yellow for hauling down Reece Hands.

Brechin 1-0 Stenhousemuir

THE only goal of the game came a couple of minutes before half-time when City won a free-kick in their opponents half.

The kick was quickly taken by City skipper Craig Molloy, catching the visiting defence off guard, and Alan Trouten was allowed plenty of time and space before expertly lobbing the ball beyond goalkeeper Greg Fleming.

The visitors hit back after the break and were given a golden opportunity to level in the 79th minute after Paul McLean had fouled Colin McMenamin in the box but City keeper Graeme Smith tipped Martin Grehan’s kick round the post.
