Rangers manager abandons plan to build specifically for the Premiership.
Since the Light Blues entered the lower divisions in 2012, their manager has remained adamant about the need to build a side capable of hitting the ground running in the Premiership.
However, speaking ahead of the public release of Chief Executive Graham Wallace’s 120-day business review on Friday, he admitted he plans to adopt a pragmatic approach to next season.
“I don’t know how many players we’ll need to win it, but we will need to strengthen, particularly in defence and up front,” he said.
“David Templeton, Andy Little and Nicky Clark have all been injured. Jon Daly has been battling through, but he’s looked as if he could have done with a rest.
“We definitely need to strengthen to help us for next year. We have a list of Bosmans globally and are just waiting for the go-ahead to get moving.
“Circumstances are dictating we can’t get moving yet. We’ll be ready to go, but my gut feeling is that it looks as though we’ll just have to try to get a team to win the League next year.
“It will be a turning point for me when the review comes out.
“I’ve got meetings arranged with Graham, and I’d expect everyone to be in a better, clearer place after that.”
The Rangers boss, meanwhile, is optimistic Lewis MacLeod is on the mend after suffering heart complications following a virus.
“I spoke to Lewis on Wednesday and he was in a better frame of mind,” said McCoist.
“But his scans have now been sent down to the top man at the English FA for inspection, and the signs are positive.”
