Neil Lennon last night admitted he was flattered to be linked with the Norwich City job.
The Celtic manager’s name is on a shortlist of possible replacements for Canaries current boss Chris Hughton. The latter had been under intense pressure following a run of poor results. That eased yesterday, though, with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Hull City.
“I’m delighted for Chris I think he’ll now be safe for another while,” said Lennon, who travelled south to watch Norwich v Fulham in midweek. “He is a good man and is doing a good job there keeping them out of the bottom three. I cannot help the speculation.
“I’m flattered but Chris is a good manager in that job so good luck to him.”
The Irishman’s stock has risen again thanks to Celtic’s storming run in domestic competition. They have won their last 10 League games and kept nine consecutive clean sheets in domestic competition. And Kris Commons warns as long as that is the case, he is going to be a hot property.
“The more we do, the more the manager is going to be linked with various jobs,” he said. “It is probably the crunch time of the season when there is going to be ins and outs with managers with teams not performing as well.
“Our manager is certainly one of the best in the country so he is going to be linked with many more I think.”
Meanwhile, Commons last night backed Anthony Stokes to soon start putting him under pressure in the goals charts.
With five-and-a-half months of the season gone, the Celtic midfielder has scored 14 SPL goals double the number of goals his team-mate has netted.
And with Stokes playing up front every week, that is a statistic which is fast becoming something of an embarrassment to the Irishman.
“Listen, Anthony is doing everything but scoring at the minute,” said Commons with a smile after his brace in the 3-0 win over Motherwell.
“His performance today was outstanding apart, of course, from the tackle that got him sent off.
“It is one of those things, when you are in the right place at the right time everything falls to you. That is where I am at the minute.
“I am not thinking about world-class goals, I am just trying to be in the right place at the right time. It is the sort of form you dream of but very rarely do you keep scoring.
“Anthony is not there but he is working very hard to get goals and for the team.”
