Glazers have to back Man United boss Moyes with £100 million

David Moyes will turn Manchester United around but he needs cash to do it.

The Man United boss think he’s done something to upset the footballing gods. Everyone has an opinion on why things are going wrong at Manchester United this season, but there’s no accounting for sheer bad luck.

People seem to have forgotten that United were heading to Wembley for the Capital One Cup Final when goalkeeper David de Gea committed a monumental blunder.

That totally changed the semi-final against Sunderland and must have further sapped confidence in the ranks. Who’s to say United wouldn’t have gone on to beat their neighbours City at Wembley? It might seem unlikely but you just never know in football.

I accept that if any other high-profile boss in the Premier League was effectively out of all competitions by January then his jacket would be on a very shaky peg. However, there are a unique set of circumstances at Old Trafford.

I’ve been taking pelters for saying it, but I won’t stop saying it I firmly believe David Moyes will turn things around. I don’t believe the Glazers will lose patience and bring his reign to an abrupt end.

Moyes has a six-year contract and he will be allowed to get on with the job unless there’s a complete meltdown and United finish mid-table.

I fully expect things to pick up once the Reds’ best two players, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, come back from injury. Getting Marouane Fellaini fit again should also help.

We’ve already seen the manager looking to bolster his midfield creativity by signing Juan Mata. It’s been crystal clear for several years that Manchester United have been struggling in the middle of the pitch.

I’m not blaming Sir Alex Ferguson because we don’t know how much support he was getting when it came to investment in new players. But it was a sign of the times when United were delighted to get Paul Scholes out of retirement in 2012.

Ryan Giggs is still in the squad at the age of 40, but he can’t go on forever. I had Malky Mackay on my radio show on Friday and his view is that a manager needs three transfer windows to put his stamp on a team.

I completely agree, and believe the Glazers must give Davie Moyes £100 million to spend in the summer. People must accept there’s a major rebuilding job to be done at Old Trafford before Manchester United can be a force again.

Having played for the club, I know how fickle the fans can be. The away support is magnificent, but the home crowd can be very impatient at the best of times.

Sir Alex Ferguson asked them to give the new manager their full support and he now needs that more than ever. The clowns who dial 999 after their side has lost a cup tie bring shame on the club.

Real supporters will appreciate all the good times and play their part in bringing them back.
