Craig Gordon won’t be chasing Fraser Forster records

Born-again keeper Craig Gordon has his sights set on back-to-back shut-outs.

Craig Gordon will attempt to secure back-to-back clean sheets in the League for the first time this season today.

And the Celtic goalkeeper admits his team-mates will witness a different side of him if he finds himself picking the ball out of the back of the net against Kilmarnock.

The 31-year-old has been in magnificent form for Ronny Deila’s side this season but has only managed two shut-outs in nine League encounters.

His first came on the opening day of the campaign, but the Scotland keeper had to wait until last weekend’s 5-0 win at Ross County to secure a second and he is hungry for more.

“I was pretty annoyed in the dressing room afterwards that I didn’t get another clean sheet against Astra,” said Gordon.

“For the first 10-15 minutes after full-time, I wasn’t amused. After putting so much into the game, I was hoping for a clean sheet.

“I don’t set targets for a certain amount of them. You can’t control that. You can only control your performance and that’s all I look for.

“If you’re doing well consistently, the clean sheets will come. I was pleased to get one last weekend and hopefully more will follow but I’ll always take a win ahead of anything else.”

Gordon’s performances have been so impressive the Celtic supporters have just about forgotten all about Fraser Forster.

The Englishman set a consecutive clean sheet record last season by going 1256 minutes without losing a goal.

But trying to get even close to that record isn’t a target for his replacement right now.

“Just getting a couple in a row would be a good start,” laughed Gordon.

“If I get as many as Fraser, I’ll be doing alright. But, no, that’s not something I’ll think about.

“It’s more important the team wins, but we have a better chance of doing so if we don’t concede goals.”

Consistency has been the biggest problem for Celtic so far under Deila, but the return of key players could solve that problem according to Gordon.

He said: “We’ve not picked up great results after European nights.

“But with the squad and the number of players not playing now, if we need to make a few changes, the other boys will be just as good.

“Hopefully that will help us solve the inconsistency. We’ve had a couple of wins and we need to keep that going.

“We need to show everyone that we’re back and we’re going to be in this for the long haul.

“We need to show our fans that we’re going to come good for the rest of the season and we’re going to come strong.”
