Shakira’s loving life with her new baby

It’s a difficult job, but someone has to interview the Latina lovely.

I caught up with her on the red carpet last week as she attended the premiere of the fourth season of The Voice US.

Producers of the British version must have looked across the Atlantic and decided to copy the Americans by hiring their own hip-swivelling, tanned, sex-bomb version of Shakira Tom Jones!

We haven’t seen much of Shakira in the UK since she had her baby boy, Milan, back in January.

But the Hips Don’t Lie singer is adjusting to motherhood.

“He’s so mellow and very alert,” she gushed when asked about baby Milan.

“He’s just a great baby he makes my life easy.

“It’s not as difficult as I thought it was going to be. The first month was crazy, when we were trying to figure everything out.

“You look at yourself in the mirror and one of those wrinkly shar pei dogs is staring back!”

The 36-year-old Columbian looks fantastic these days so maybe it’s worth following the advice she has for any ladies who are expecting.

“I want to share my experiences with any first-time mums-to-be out there,” she added. “It’s so surreal at first, but it’s great now.

“But everything’s not as idyllic as you see in the movies there’s a learning curve so be patient with yourself. Remember to cut yourself some slack!”

Shakira has looked after wee Milan while her footballer boyfriend, Gerard Pique, helped his team, Barcelona, win the league this season.

And she didn’t hesitate when I asked her what she’d prefer her son to be when he grows up a footballer or a pop star.

“A footballer,” she said. “Good God, not a pop star. Don’t tell anyone I said that!

“Although I have been writing some songs for him.

“Usually I just sing him a lullaby I’ve made up because I don’t know any, but I did write a proper song for him.

“It was the day I was going into labour but that one is just for the family.”

One thing she’s looking forward to is being back on The Voice US.

“I’m having a blast here,” she added.

“The Voice is a great platform for us to share a part of our personalities that people don’t usually get to see.

“I don’t think I’d be able to come over and do the UK version of The Voice, though between Milan, Gerard, The Voice US and my career, I don’t think I have any more space in my life left!”

One thing she has promised is a new album and a visit to the UK for a short tour after she takes a well-earned rest.

“After becoming a mum and doing The Voice US I’m going to take a short break.

“But I will come to the UK to sing and perform.

“I know you have some great artists there can you accept one more?”

I’m sure we could squeeze you in somewhere, Shakira!
