Liz Hurley has been crowned the queen of American TV

The very lovely Liz Hurley is starring in a smashing new show and I can’t get enough of it.

It’s called The Royals and is an outrageous drama about the British Royal Family.

Now, before we sever diplomatic ties with The White House, expel all US citizens and ship them back all their Hershey bars, haud on a wee minute.

These uppity Americans aren’t trying to take the mickey out of The Queen, Charles, Will and Kate this is a fictional version of the Royal family.

Liz plays the feisty and not a little sexy Queen Helena, matriarch to a dysfunctional regal clan.

The characters on The Royals are more concerned with sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll than polo, skiing and visiting community centres.

It was great meeting Liz, not only is she as classy and gorgeous as you’d expect, she also has a twinkle in her eye she’s up for a laugh.

So how does Miss Hurley like being the new Queen Elizabeth?

“It feels pretty good to be Queen,” said Liz.

“I was on the set all day in my tiara, in a wonderful dress and all the extras were bowing to me. I kind of liked it! Now I just feel jealous of the real Queen!”

You might have caught a few episodes of The Royals it’s great fun.

Watching it reminds me a lot of the outrageous drama series, Footballers’ Wives, in fact.

And who better to star as a Royal in an over-the-top show like this than Liz Hurley? She has a regal air about her and she’s incredibly sexy too.

This show is the first drama the American channel E! has produced, and they’ve not just got their casting right with Queen Liz.

Joan Collins also makes an appearance, as the, er, Grand Duchess of Oxfordshire?

“Obviously an invented title,” giggles Liz.

“But what a treat to have Joan. She’s just fabulous. She takes it a step on from Dynasty and steals every scene!”

It seems a long time since Liz made a splash with her appearance in that incredible black dress in 1994 at the Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere yes, 21 years ago!

And this is Liz’s first TV series in a long time too, as she took a break from acting.

So why has she chosen to come back now?

“I took eight years out to raise my son,” she told me.

“I didn’t expect to come back and get great parts. This came out of the blue and I’m thrilled.

After meeting Liz there’s only one thing to say God save the Queen!
