Scots singing superstar Susan Boyle has backed a charity’s attempt to help ease the suffering in the Philippines.

Over 5,000 people have died and many thousands more have been made homeless after Typhoon Haiyan struck three weeks ago.

The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund has already raised £400,000 in donations to help those affected.

Susan, from Blackburn, West Lothian, said: “It’s heartbreaking to see the terrible suffering of the Philippines people.

“The pictures of devastation on the television really shocked me.”

The star, who shot to fame on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, said: “I just can’t imagine what it would be like to lose my home, family, friends and all I know.

And she asked the question on the lips of many watching the unfolding disaster on their TV screens: “How would it be possible to carry on?

She added: “I am a big supporter of SCIAF and I know they are helping as many people as they can.

“Please give whatever you can to help SCIAF’s emergency appeal.

“Every penny will help to make a difference.”

Donations to the Philippines Typhoon Emergency Appeal can be made by visiting SCIAF’s website or calling 0141 354 5555.
