Rude awakening for royal baby watcher

A royal super fan has spoken of the “hilarious” moment a policeman woke him up in his tent after his fellow campers thought he was an imposter.

Sky London, 54, had popped home to feed his cat at his house near Paddington Police Station last night and had told some – but not all – of his friends outside the Lindo Wing that he would be back later.

Having returned to his tent quite late, he did not want to disturb the others who he thought were already sleeping in their tents.

But fellow royal camper John Loughrey, 60, from London, was not taking any chances and called the police due to having had “some trouble” previously with what he called “strange people”.

Mr Loughrey said the police arrived within about five minutes – much to Mr London’s surprise.

“Imagine someone waking you up and it was the police,” he said. “It was hilarious.”

He said the policeman asked him if it was his tent and said: “Do you mind stepping out?”

Mr London said his prime concern was to find his glasses. He said the policeman asked the others if they knew him and it was all resolved quickly. Mr Loughrey said the policeman was “quite cheerful” about it.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said they received a call after 3am about reports of someone in a tent. He said it was soon established that there was no offence and there was nothing untoward. The campers were laughing about the incident this morning.
