Sun, sea, sex . . . and shame

I am utterly appalled at the antics of a sad section of young British holidaymakers who leave behind any sense of decency and morals when they check-in to their flight to the sunshine.

The latest shameful episode involved a young woman who was filmed performing a lewd act on TWENTY FOUR different men in a bar.

This stupid girl, who clearly has no self respect or sense of shame, was told by the organisers of the “party” in Magaluf in Majorca she would win a holiday if she degraded herself in such a fashion.

Just when you thought this couldn’t be any worse, the leering, sleazy idiots who organised this debauched debacle weren’t offering a vacation, just a cocktail called a “holiday”.

So this 18-year-old debased herself for a sickly glass of vodka, gin and peach schnapps that cost just £4.

Of course, there shouldn’t be enough money in the world to entice anyone to commit such appalling acts.

When I was the same age I went for a holiday to Benidorm with my friends and we had a brilliant time, but compared with the antics of today’s teens we were like a bunch of extras from The Sound Of Music.

This is a completely different world where resorts like the aforementioned Magaluf are little more than dens of iniquity. I remember going on holiday to Malia on Crete back in the early ’80s when it was little more than a fishing village with a few pubs and bars. Now it is one of the most notorious 18-30 hot spots and essentially one giant nightclub.

God knows what the poor Greeks who have to clean up after the hordes must think of the youngsters who binge on booze and have no respect for others or themselves.

Today, of course, those horribly embarrassing drunken moments can’t just be forgotten when the hangover wears off. Social media means that everyone with a mobile phone can take photos, videos and tweet all the most embarrassing incidents in the twinkling of an eye. Once those images are out there, posted on Facebook or Instagram, they can never be erased.

This is exactly what happened to that girl in Magaluf. She was filmed on a mobile and then the footage was put up on Facebook. Now that the story is in the public domain it will most probably go viral.

I’d like to believe she will be mortified and hugely embarrassed, but sadly when you see TV shows like Sex On The Beach most of the young men and women involved seem only too happy to strip off for the cameras and behave as though they were at a Roman orgy.

There is a glimmer of hope. The mayor of Magaluf has proposed a crackdown on all-night drinking after locals complained. There should also be a ban on these organised “parties” that allow teenagers to get hideously drunk and then to engage in sexual practises that are not only dangerous but surely should be considered illegal.

I’m not a killjoy and I know young people have to let off steam, but this clearly crosses a line. It’s a disgraceful way to behave and shows a lack of self esteem that is deeply worrying.

These young people need to be protected from themselves.
