Watch DIY dafties cling on for dear life in overloaded van

THIS pair of dafties make The Chuckle Brothers look positively reliable!

Motorists spotted this van driving through Glasgow with a passenger holding a wooden board that was far too big for the vehicle.

Not ones to be deterred, the intrepid duo decided one of them would lie in the back of the van with the boot door wide open and hold the board in place.

However, the hapless passenger was left lying precariously close to the edge of the vehicle, raising the prospect he could slip out onto the road at any time.

The risky manoeuvre was captured by a stunned passenger in a car driving behind the DIY dafties.

Gerry McGuire, from Glasgow, who recorded the footage, said: “My wife Paula was driving and I was in the front passenger seat.

“We pulled up behind the van at a roundabout. When we spotted the scene in front of us, I couldn’t get my phone out fast enough.

“Someone had obviously bought a piece of wood that was too big for the van, and the poor guy in the back had drawn the short straw.

“He looked like he was trying to hide underneath the wood as well as clinging on for dear life.

“It looked like real Buster Keaton stuff – I should have put some plinky plonky silent movie music over the top of the video, but I was too busy laughing.”

The risky move is just one in a long line of examples of bad driving that have been captured on film.

One driver was filmed this summer crashing into a car and a building in Bo’Ness while trying to reverse park before giving up and driving off without stopping to inspect the damage.

Gerry McGuire, who uses the Twitter handle @GerryMcG, said he hopes the guys in the van didn’t have an accident on-route.

He said: “Wherever he was going, I hope he made it safely and that the wood was the right size.

“Although I’d imagine that next time he’ll be driving and it’ll be his mate’s turn to hide in the back of the van.”
