Kingsman is a funny twist on the James Bond series.
The new movie Kingsman: The Secret Service starring Colin Firth as a gentleman spy who is also an action star, is an enjoyable romp, apart from one startling off colour joke near the end of the film.
It’s notable for another top performance from unsung hero Mark Strong who brings a touch of class to every film and TV show where he makes an appearance.
In Kingsman he is a no nonsense spy instructor who moulds young recruits, and emerges as one of the few non-Scottish actors who can actually do the accent.
If you didn’t know better you would think he had been born and bred north of the border.
If you are easily offended or don’t like violence, albeit the cartoonish type, then this movie won’t be for you but it’s a funny twist on the Bond films and a chance to see Colin Firth do some serious butt kicking.
He told me that he actually really enjoyed the six month training but every bone in his body was aching and he was very proud of his bruises.
I’m sure there’s already a sequel in the offing.
