My Favourite Holiday: Jean Johansson says Finland’s a hot spot if you want to chill out

She’s worked for the Disney Channel and was a popular STV weathergirl. She will join The One Show as a reporter shortly.

Jean is married to former Rangers footballer Jonatan Johansson.

They have a five-year-old son and live in Skelmorlie.

Jonatan’s from Finland and Turku would have to be one of my all-time favourite places.

It’s about two hours south of Helsinki and is just such a beautiful, historic place on the south-west coast.

There’s a real mix of the old and the new, with wonderful architecture.

It’s one of those places where you walk everywhere and the riverside is the place to be.

It’s really bustling, with people sitting at the outdoor cafes in summer.

People think of Finland’s snowy climate but the weather is great in July and August – last summer was almost too hot.

The Finns take their holidays in August and there’s such a good vibe.

The other place I’d definitely pick is the Maldives.

With Jonatan’s footballing commitments we didn’t get a honeymoon so we went before we got married.

It was to Rangali Island, where there’s a seven-star resort.

It wouldn’t be over the top to call it paradise on earth.

Once you get off the seaplane you take your shoes off and you don’t put them on again until you leave.

You just wander around, going snorkelling in the clear waters amidst the coral and eating amazing food in any of the seven restaurants.

You chill on the beach during the day and then chill some more at night with a really nice bottle of champagne.

It really is a bit of a honeymoon place with lots of couples so not really one to go back to with kids.

But it was the ultimate luxury destination.

It’s all very different to the holidays when I was growing up.

I don’t know if it was because of Bergerac, but my mum and dad really wanted to go to Jersey and we had a massive drive down to get the ferry.

And my first time away without them was to Tenerife with the girls. It was typical teen stuff – going out all night and sleeping all day.

I remember I had £100 spending money and I came home with change!
