I DON’T know about you but it feels like an age since I was on my summer holiday and I’m itching for another break to recharge my batteries. I don’t think I’ll make it to Christmas without a change of scene.
I love going away at this time of year. Summer has melted away and outdoors takes on a different hue as the leaves change from lush green to deep gold and russet and fall to the ground like burnt orange confetti.
The crisp autumn days are perfect for getting out and about, blowing off the cobwebs and enjoying the natural beauty of our countryside before it gets too cold and wintry to leave the house.
Here in the UK, we’re blessed to have so many pretty spots to escape to. One of my favourites is the beautiful Lake District which feels like a little piece of Heaven on earth – regardless of the season.
There also plenty of events taking place in and around Windermere this autumn. Here’s our top pick:
The World of Beatrix Potter
The World of Beatrix Potter is unmissable. It’s simply a must for visitors, young and old alike. The World of Beatrix Potter™ attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere is a vibrant visitor centre for all the family. Explore a magical world where these enchanting tales are brought to life. There’s chance to meet your favourite characters including Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy-winkle and Jemima Puddle-Duck. And don’t forget you can take a bit of Beatrix Potter magic home with you at the end of the day from the famous gift shop. With plenty of great events to take part in too, it’s a fun day guaranteed whatever the weather!
Windermere Lake Cruises
It would be a shame to visit here and not take a trip out on the water. Enjoy a tranquil cruise, taking in picture postcard scenery along the way.
There’s a theatrical treat in store for visitors this autumn. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s light-hearted musical, by Jeeves runs at The Old Laundry Theatre from 6th October until 4th November.
Victorian Magic Lantern Show
A delightful, traditional magic lantern show featuring Beatrix Potter. Running 4th October and 8th November at The Old Laundry Studio.
Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole
Spend a day at this great attraction which has beautiful gardens, boat hire, mini golf, pony rides and much more. There’s also seasonal events take place and be sure to check out the Ghosts & Ghouls Hallowe’en Trail from 14-31 October.
Private Lake Tours
Enjoy the stunning scenery of the region on a private tour of the Lake District from Windermere, taking in the peaceful countryside and pretty lakes with your very own driver and expert guide.
There’s plenty going on but if you simply want to take it easy, The Lake District is also perfect for peaceful strolls, just soaking up the calm, tranquil atmosphere. There is something for everyone and it’s just waiting to be discovered by you this autumn.
