Restaurant review: Salt, 115 Cadzow Street, Hamilton

Post Thumbnail

Location

Based in an old bank in the centre of Hamilton, it’s easily reached by public transport or you can drive and park nearby.

First impressions

Salt is cool without even trying. Pink mood lighting against dark walls and hand-painted art mixed with raw steel, wooden stools and a big pink blossom tree in the middle. Very Insta worthy!

Service

Our smiling, friendly waitress is great. She talks us through the menu and how to order. The restaurant is busy but we feel the focus of her attention throughout the meal, even though she is tending to several tables at a time. She even handwrites a wee personal note on the bill and boxes up our leftovers.

Menu

There are two sides to the menu…sushi or street food. The sushi menu has everything from salt rolls to sashimi and the street food ranges from katsu curry to flavoured fries. You’ll find yourself spoiled for choice. Many are a tapas style, which means you can sample a few different dishes at a time and even mix the two styles of food to create something unique.

Taste

We opt for some steamed buns – with pork belly and crispy duck, and some chicken karaage and Korean corndog on the side. Everything is sensational. The kimchi fries are out of this world. It’s a miracle we have any room left for dessert but manage to squeeze in a bubble waffle skewer, which is to die for!

Ambience

We visit at lunchtime on a weekday and the place is packed. Thank goodness we made a booking. It’s busy, yet we still feel relaxed and not rushed at all.

Price

With the bill coming in at just over £60 for two, it was very reasonable indeed.

P.S. Definitely try a cocktail if you visit. The Raspberry and Mint Smash and Espresso Salted Caramel Martini are amazing!
