Ross McCrorie says Rangers are ready to scrap for second-place

MIDFIELDER Ross McCrorie insists Rangers are up for the second-place scrap after their battling point at Aberdeen.

The 20-year-old had to bail out his team with his second half equaliser after they had been shaken by a controversial Kenny McLean penalty early on.

But for a side whose character has been called into question in the wake of two feeble performances against Celtic recently, McCrorie believes the 1-1 draw shows they are still firmly in the battle to finish. ‘best of the rest’.

Gers remain a point behind Derek McInnes’ men but Hibernian can draw level with the Light Blues if they beat Hearts on Wednesday night, meaning it will be all to play for when the Reds go to Celtic Park and the Ibrox side to Easter Road on Sunday’s final day of the season.

McCrorie told RangersTV: “It was a battling goal from me.

“It was a 50/50 but a goal is a goal and I was happy to get the team back on level terms but disappointed not to get the three points.

“I think it was two different halves, they were completely different. In the first we didn’t play to our usual standards, we let it slip and gave away a slack goal.

“I was right behind the penalty incident and I saw Alfredo get the ball first, I don’t think it was the right decision.

“The first 15 minutes we started really well and got off to a good start and then they got the goal which wasn’t ideal timing and we had to come back fighting.

“We came here to get the three points to solidify second place and we have a big game on Sunday now – I am looking forward to that.

“That game is huge now, we need to rely on other results but we need to go to Hibs and hope for the three points.”

Aberdeen remain in the driving seat but they risk losing out to their rivals unless they can arrest their horror run against the champions.

Celtic have won 10 games on the bounce against McInnes’ side but midfielder Dom Ball is confident that is all about to change.

He told RedTV: “Now it goes down to the last game of the season against Celtic and the togetherness we have in the team gives us a chance.

“We’ve got to go to Celtic and do what we haven’t done, but I think on the back of our run at the moment we’ve got a chance.

“There’s a lot of things that can happen and there’s lots of variables, but at the end of the day we’re going down to Celtic to win the game. It’s as simple as that.

“What happens in the other game will happen, so we want to finish the season well.”
