RANGERS right-back James Tavernier has his sights set on a comfortable victory in Luxembourg on Tuesday night – and wants an early goal to set them on their way to the next round of the Europa League.
Pedro Caixinha’s side had to be content with a solitary Kenny Miller goal last week in the first European match at Ibrox in six years but a clean sheet has given them the platform to take a real grip on their first qualifying-round encounter with Progres Niederkorn.
Tavernier told Rangers TV: “The teams that come to Ibrox don’t really try and exploit us – they tend to just sit back and try to catch us on the counter attack and at set-pieces.
“That’s what we expected from them and that’s what they did. It’s a matter of just being aggressive in front of their goal and to score as many goals as we can.
“It is disappointing when you are creating a lot of chances and the ball isn’t going in the goal. We got the one from Kenny to give us the upper hand in this second leg.
“We want to come over here and win comfortably. We want that early goal and then possibly more – we have looked at it and the early goal means they need three to get past us.
“We are looking to keep a clean sheet at the back and the forward men are looking to score as many goals as they can.”
