SCOTTISH Dance Theatre is collaborating with legendary Glasgow music label Optimo, to bring a Brazilian street festival inspired show, Looping: Scotland Overdub to Dundee, Wick and the Isle of Mull this summer on its premier tour.

Starting in mid July, Scottish Dance Theatre will work with up to 25 young people aged 12 to form local community casts in each location to explore the urban cultures and heritages of Brazil and Scotland in a political dance party, through electronic dance music and fresh dance.

Scottish Dance Theatre’s company of professional dancers will work with the young community casts during residency periods in three unique locations, culminating in a final performance/sharing moment for the wider community, capturing the collective spirit of ceilidh dancing and street festival.

A unique commission by Scottish Dance Theatre, Looping: Scotland Overdub is a participatory dance performance project specifically designed to engage with local artists and young people of Dundee, Caithness and the Western Isles, and will be led by a professional company of dancers, including Felipe de Assis and Rita Aquino.

Fleur Darkin, Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre, said; “In touring
Brazil two years ago I came across the mighty Panorama Festival and stumbled upon Looping.

“Working in a purposely flat structure of a dance collective, Felipe de Assis and Rita Aquino are some of the most exciting dance workers in Brazil today.

“I am so thrilled to bring together some of Scotland’s finest talent and for us all to dance to the fantastic output of legendary Glasweigian label Optimo”.
