Amy Johnston, born and raised in Moray, loves sharing her foodie finds on her Instagram page.

She travelled the world as a professional singer for many years before coming back and settling down in Moray where she now works as a music teacher.

Amy set up @the.hungry.lassie in August last year to promote everything she loves about Scotland, especially Moray, the north-east and the Highlands.

NC500

Probably the most amazing trip in Scotland is the NC500, which I took with my partner in April 2019. It really is one of the greatest roads to drive in the world, with breathtaking landscapes, stunning beaches and local delicacies.

There are too many highlights to include, but some of my top picks are: The Seafood Shack in Ullapool, Smoo Caves, Dunrobin Castle, Lochinver Larder (for the pies), Achmelvich Beach and Fairy Glen.

Don’t worry, you will definitely see lots of Highland cows and deer along the way too!

Cullen

I grew up in Buckie, so I know the Moray coastline extremely well and Cullen is one of those places you can’t help but adore. The beach has always been my go to place when I want to get away from it all.

Food and drink wise I recommend Coffee at the Kings, Rockpool Cafe, The Ice Cream Shop, The Seafield Arms, The New Denver and Seafield Seafoods.

There are also some unique antique and local craft shops, as well as Cullen Sea School for those who fancy spending some time in the water.

KJ’s Bothy Bakery

If it’s not clear by now I am absolutely food obsessed and this may be my top pick for food in Scotland.

KJ originally had Mountain Cafe in Aviemore but was forced to shut due to the pandemic. So KJ’s Bothy Bakery was born in the new location of an industrial estate in Grantown on Spey.

Her all-female staff make everything from out of this world sweet baked goods, delicious savoury pastries and sandwiches and the freshest of bread.

Love, love, love!
