Morven Macgregor and Darren Smith know the north-east food and drink scene like the back of their hands.

Together, they are Waffling On About Food, Aberdeen-based foodie bloggers with a passion for supporting and showcasing all things local.

They also love travelling beyond the north-east to enjoy the best eats and places to visit across Scotland. We challenged them to pick their top three.

Baern Cafe

A proper feast at Baern. Image: Waffling On About Food

Baern is brilliant cafe situated in Bowhouse in Fife’s East Neuk. The cafe has a focus on sustainability and utilises local ingredients in as many ways as possible. They have such imaginative ideas including broad bean skin cordial and olive, marmite and white chocolate cookies! You could always tie in your visit with the monthly markets at Bowhouse too.

Coral Beach

Yu can’t miss this if you visit Skye. Image: Waffling On About Food

It was our first time in Skye and we approached Coral Beach just as the sun was setting, it was breathtaking. The water was clear and looked so blue in contrast to the white coral. Skye has so many beautiful beaches but the unusual coral makes this one feel even more special. It’s a beautiful spot we always look forward to returning to.

Barrowland Ballroom

This sign is an iconic sight. Image: Waffling On About Food

A visit to the Barrowlands to see a band or singer we love is one of our all-time favourite things to do in Scotland. The venue has fond and nostalgic memories for so many people. The stars on the roof and the neon lights are an iconic sight and one worth seeking out if your favourite artist is touring.
