HEARTS are targeting a move for Norwich City goalkeeper Michael McGovern.

The Sun reports that Ian Cathro wants to bring the former Hamilton and Ross County player back north of the border.

Meanwhile, Sam Nicholson has backed Cathro to turn things around at Tynecastle, according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

The winger has just left Hearts for MLS side Minnesota United.

The Daily Record reports that Hibs defender Efe Ambrose has gone AWOL on his extended summer break.

Manager Neil Lennon says he can’t get a hold of the Nigerian star, and that he’s ‘in a bit of trouble’ when he eventually returns to Easter Road.

Aberdeen defender Shay Logan says the love he’s received from Dons fans is one of the main reasons he’s signed a new contract at the club.

The Courier reports that Dundee United are set to sign Dutch midfielder Jordie Briels.

The 25-year-old has been involved with the Tangerines’ pre-season preparations and could debut against Raith in the Befred Cup on Saturday.

Celtic captain Scott Brown says he’s fit and ready for the Hoops’ Champions League qualifier against Linfield.

Rangers say they have no plans to play Serie A side Crotone in a friendly – despite the Italian side’s director claiming a match is set for Jul 29.

Down south

Tony Pulis is targeting Manchester United defensive duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in an ambitious double swoop, according to the Mirror.

The pair’s Old Trafford futures are in doubt with the arrival of Victor Lindelof.

England goalkeeper Joe Hart is wanted by West Ham, reports the Telegraph, although the Hammers are keen on a loan deal, while Manchester City would rather Hart left on a permanent basis.

The paper adds that Newcastle have been put off by a £20million price tag and the 30-year-old’s wages, and have also missed out on Jose Reina after he decided to sign a new Napoli deal.

Staying with West Ham, the Evening Standard claims that the Hammers will return to Stoke with an improved offer for wantaway forward Marko Arnautovic. The 28-year-old has submitted a transfer request after an initial offer was turned down.

Marseille are keen on Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko, reports the Evening Standard. The Frenchman is apparently keen to leave Spurs after struggling for game time since arriving from Newcastle.

Everton and Crystal Palace are set to fight it out for the signing of Ajax defender Jairo Riedwald, says the Liverpool Echo. The Holland international was reportedly on his way to Selhurst Park when the Toffees made an 11th-hour bid.
