Scots fireman ready to go head-to-head on The Voice

Fireman Stevie McCrorie faces his biggest battle on next week’s The Voice.

He’s in a head-to-head fight for survival in the BBC’s hit talent show.

And Fife-based Stevie has told The Sunday Post how his life has already changed beyond all recognition.

He was a paparazzi target at the star-studded London premiere of 50 Shades of Grey and has even had a smitten fan flash him from a tanning salon!

“Everywhere I go, people recognise me and ask for photos and autographs,” confides Stevie.

“I get it when we’re doing home safety visits and I’ve even had it when we’re out on proper emergency calls. It’s really surreal. So was being on the grey carpet at the premiere last weekend.

“I was playing with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and had to speak to Edith Bowman, who was there to interview all the cast, in front of this huge crowd.”

Stevie has had to come terms with being bookies’ favourite right from his dazzling debut on the show when coach Rita Ora flirted outrageously to try and get him on her team. He admits the pop star still shows a special interest.

“She’ll always give me a wee wave and wink backstage,” laughs Stevie.

The pressure will mount next Saturday when he sings off against Tim Arnold to try to impress judge Ricky Wilson.

But Stevie says domestic duties, wife Amy and two-year-old daughter Bibi are stopping him from getting lost in a showbiz whirl.

“It’s important to stay grounded as it’s a long way down if you put yourself in the clouds. I know these shows don’t give you automatic wealth and riches it’s going to be hard work. So at home, I’m just on normal dad duties, changing nappies and doing the housework.”

Having been thrust into the limelight and with his musical career soaring, Stevie admits he could be coming to a career crossroads.

“I love being a firefighter, but singing has always been my dream. I don’t know what I’m going to do if things really work out. It’s a concern and I’m a natural born worrier.

“I don’t want to quit the fire service, but you only live once and if I made it in the music industry, that’s the lifestyle I’d want.

“I don’t know if I can speak to the fire service and see if I could have a bit of time-out or a career break. It’s such a hard decision but I’ll have to make it if it arises.”

Glasgow girl Morven Brown, 17, will also be involved in next week’s battles, facing up to Mitch Miller.

Meanwhile, stunning 26-year-old Shetlander Lisa Ward wowed the coaches on last night’s final Blind Auditions.

Her version of Skunk Anansie’s Weak had Tom Jones and Will.i.am spinning their chairs and she opted for Team Tom.
