Film In The City St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, Sunday
June is movie month in the capital, with the prestigious Edinburgh International Film Festival bringing a host of films to the city.
In partnership with the EIFF, This Is Edinburgh is hosting a day of outdoor cinema screening in the magnificent setting of St Andrew Square.
With space for 1,000 and families are very welcome, it’s the perfect opportunity to pack a picnic and a rug, and enjoy films from 11am to 11pm, including Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, The Princess Bride, Mean Girls and Batman.
RSNO Notes From Scotland Perth Concert Hall, Wednesday
This is the live final of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s new competition, Notes From Scotland.
Five young composers will battle it out to win the first national title, as each of the pieces will be performed by RSNO musicians in front of a panel of experts.
In collaboration with the National Trust for Scotland, the competition invited composers aged 12-18 to write a chamber piece inspired by one of Scotland’s historical attractions, and tonight sees the best of those compositions.
A Doll’s House Cumbernauld Theatre, Friday and Saturday
The Actors’ Group is Cumbernauld Theatre’s am-dram for adults, where those with an interest in drama as well as backstage skills such as lighting and costume meet once a week to develop their talents.
Each production is directed by a professional and their latest is the Ibsen’s, A Doll’s House.
It’s Christmas Eve and for Nora life is blissful, as she and her family prepare for the festivities.
But Nora will soon unwrap more than she bargained for, as a secret from her past threatens life as she knows it.
Zippos Circus Glasgow Victoria Park, Tuesday to Monday
There’s nothing better than a night at the circus and Zippos voted Britain’s Best Circus in 2013 and 2014 has created a new show for this year.
Among the acts are musical clowns the Rastellis, human pyramid acrobats the Zulu Warriors, hand balancer Kremena and in the show’s climax, the Globe Of Terror, four bikers race horizontally inside a tiny space which splits open as they ride.
As always, it’s all introduced by renowned ringmaster and budgie trainer, Norman Barrett.
Rock Of Ages Dumbarton Castle Rock and Pier Park, Sunday
Around 100 historically costumed performers from across the country will depict key moments throughout Scottish history, from Viking visitors up to the Second World War.
Visitors will have the opportunity to gain an insight into Dumbarton’s varied past, including the numerous sieges made on the castle, through a series of live performances and demonstrations.
The event will also include traditional building crafts and skills, and stone workers will portray both historical and modern day workers.
Entourage At cinemas from Friday
In 2004, up-and-coming actor Vincent Chase headed for Hollywood and took four of his best mates with him.
The comedy-drama about hangers-on, loosely based on actor Mark Wahlberg’s early experiences in LA, ran for eight seasons in the US.
Cut to 2015 and Vince is mourning the demise of his five-day marriage, much of it spent with a hangover from the “epic” wedding reception. With their charge at a low ebb, the boys rally round to put him back in a party mood.
Elton John SSE Hydro, Glasgow, Friday, AECC Aberdeen, Saturday
Elton John and his band will perform two special Scottish shows this week.
His Glasgow date will be his 25th in the city, dating back to 1971 when he played Strathclyde University.
“I’ve played Glasgow more times than any other city in Scotland and have always had memorable concerts there we did a rare midnight show during our 1976 tour,” he said.
In Aberdeen, a specially-constructed outdoor arena has been erected, with a stage measuring 50 metres wide and 20 metres high.
Only Men Aloud Motherwell Concert Hall, Wednesday, Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline, Thursday
Since winning BBC’s Last Choir Standing in 2008, the Classical Brit award winning Welsh vocal group has enjoyed huge success including sell out UK tours and a performance at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.
This summer, the group will release their fifth studio album, On the Road, and for this tour of the same name, the eight-piece ensemble will perform favourites such as Mr Blue Sky and Ticket To Ride as well as debuting new material with their trademark vocal harmonies.
The Longest Ride At cinemas from Friday
With previous movies including The Notebook, Dear John, Message In A Bottle and The Lucky One, you know what you’re going to get from an adaption of a Nicholas Sparks novel.
Romance is in the air again in The Longest Ride, the story of a New York college student (Britt Robertson) who falls for a young rodeo rider (played by Scott Eastwood, son of Clint).
She’s encouraged to do whatever it takes to see that love conquers all by Ira (Alan Alda), an elderly man who uses the story of how he met his late wife as an example to follow.
