Jim Kerr eager for Party at the Palace bash.
The best ideas are often formulated over a drink or two and that was certainly the case for Party at the Palace.
The twoday music festival in Linlithgow, celebrating the best in Scottish music, was born from an idea discussed in a pub by local businessman and resident John Richardson, who is co-producing the event.
Officially added to the Homecoming Scotland 2014 programme, the concert at Linlithgow Palace on August 9 and 10 is a who’s who of Scottish pop.
Deacon Blue headline on Saturday night and Simple Minds the following evening. Also on the bill are Hue and Cry, The View, Donnie Munro, The Silencers, Horse and James Grant, to name a few.
Simple Minds’ singer Jim Kerr is looking forward to the weekend.
“It was seeing the atmospheric images from Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel show at Linlithgow Palace a couple of years ago that convinced me it would be only a matter of time before someone would come up with the idea of using the historical site as the background to an open air music festival.
“I’m delighted it has come to pass this year and I am even more delighted that Simple Minds will have the honour of being involved in what will inevitably be the highlight of our touring activities this summer.”
He’s also pleased to see such a strong line-up of Scottish talent.
“Scotland had produced an abundance of remarkable music over the decades and we look forward to playing alongside many of the artists who have contributed to that at this event,” he said.
As to what the audience can expect from the Glasgow band’s set at Linlithgow Palace?
“Well, of course, we will play all the big hits, those that are received ecstatically night after night as we continue to tour the world.
“But we will also be choosing songs from throughout our career, from the first album all the way up to the current one.
“Simple Minds try to never play the exact same set twice we always look to add the odd surprise. Playing in Scotland is always amongst the highlights of any tour.”
Party at the Palace tickets are available from partyatthepalace.co.uk or in person from Burgh Halls, Linlithgow.
