Rita Ora is having the time of her life.
Sometimes, everything seems to go your way.
All the traffic lights change to green, you find a fiver in the back pocket of those old jeans and you’ve finally worked out how to cancel that gym membership you never use.
Well that’s what’s basically happening to pop’s biggest rising star right now except on a much bigger scale. Rita, Rita no one is sweeter…
Rita Ora is seriously hot stuff, in more ways than one.
She’s being mentored by mega-star rapper and music svengali Jay-Z, which has been enough for the music press to dub her the new Rihanna.
She’s got one of the coolest men in the world dance guru and dishy Dumfries DJ Calvin Harris as a boyfriend.
Rita has recently finished filming her role in what is set to be one of the biggest films of the year the sexy drama 50 Shades Of Grey.
Recently she worked with His Purpleness, Prince, on her new album, while in two weeks she’s headlining Radio One’s Big Weekend in Glasgow.
Oh, and today she’s releasing a new single, called I Will Never Let You Down.
If she continues this meteoric rise she’ll be the President, Prime Minister and Secretary General of the UN by this time next year!
I got to sit down with Rita last week for a quick natter about what she’s been up to.
The enigmatic Prince is playing Glasgow’s Hydro venue in less than two weeks, so I thought I’d start off with him.
I actually hung out with Rita, Prince and Sharon Osbourne at a pre-Oscars party in Hollywood. So what’s her take on the artist who, despite his best efforts in the past, will always be known as Prince?
“He’s is one of the nicest guys I think I’ve ever met,” she beamed. “He’s a music legend but being around him, embracing him it’s pretty cool.
“His one word of advice was just ‘lyrics’. He’s a lyrical, as well as instrumental genius, and working with him is a sensational experience.
“I think it’s safe to say I have a story to tell the kids.”
The thing about Rita is that she seems to love doing what she’s doing. I’ve heard other people in the press say she’s lovely and she really is nice in person.
But she obviously has a lot of sex appeal which probably is why she was cast in 50 Shades Of Grey. She’ll play the character of Mia Grey, sister of housewives’ favourite Christian Grey.
So how did she enjoy being…err…tied up on that project for the last few months?
“Oh yeah, that little novel! Isn’t that crazy?” she laughed.
“Every time someone reminds me of it I think how crazy this is. It’s exciting, though. It was shot in Vancouver, we had a good time.
“It was more stress free than you would think. The most difficult part, for me, was just memorising my lines.
“You have to, like, learn words! I did take a few days to get into it, but I got there in the end.
“We had fun. The sexiness was in the air during filming. You couldn’t deny it was there!”
They’ve had to endure a lot of rumours about their supposedly on-again, off-again relationship, but it seems Rita and boyfriend Calvin are going strong.
She was saying only last week how her relationship has led her to create a positive new album which is released in August, and called O.
And Miss Ora still gets to do the things any 23-year-old likes to do.
“Thankfully I can still go to the cinema,” she added. “I love going. The last thing I went to see was Hunger Games it was brilliant.
“I don’t go in disguise or anything. Well, maybe I tie the hair up and take the red lipstick off. I love going to the movies, it’s my favourite thing to do.”
I asked her about England’s chances at the World Cup but unfortunately she’s not that into football.
“I’m the wrong person to ask! There’s a World Cup on? I’d no idea. I’m so embarrassed.”
Don’t worry, Rita you were talking to a Scotsman. World Cups and embarrassment are par for the course.
Before she had to dash off, I quizzed Rita on the strangest aspect of her rapid rise to the top.
“You never really get used to people calling your name,” she laughed. “I always get goose bumps that someone I’ve never met knows my name.
“I sort of want to take the time to meet all of them.”
