Eighties stars OMD are set to finally make Scotland’s Rewind Festival after having to cancel last time when their drummer nearly died.
The band were on the last date of a world tour in Toronto in 2013 when drummer Malcolm Holmes had to leave the stage.
“It was incredibly hot and he said he needed air,” said lead singer Andy McCluskey, 55.
“He keeled over outside with a massive cardiac arrest. He was dead until paramedics managed to zap him back.”
The horror incident was the week before the band were due to headline at Rewind.
Martin was forced to retire from touring and the band, who had hits like Enola Gay and Joan of Arc, struggled to consider performing in his absence. But they’ve signed up for this year’s festival, with new drummer Stuart Kershaw in the line-up.
“It’s been strange rehearsing without him,” said Andy, whose dad was from Dundee.
“It was difficult at first but we really want to get back.”
Rewind Scotland The 80s Festival is at Scone Palace from Friday July 24 to Sunday July 26.
