Emma Barton’s saucy antics are a real Carry On!
Ex-EastEnder Emma Barton is using her former co-star Barbara Windsor as inspiration for her new role.
Emma, who played Honey Mitchell for three years, is in the touring production of the National Theatre’s award-winning comedy One Man, Two Guvnors.
“My character, Dolly, has some good one-liners and she is quite cheeky and saucy as well,” Emma said.
“I’m trying to embrace my inner Barbara Windsor and I’ve been watching the Carry On films as research.
“If Barbara hasn’t already seen this show, I’m sure she would love it.”
Emma isn’t the only familiar face from Walford to be in the production. Shaun Williamson, who played Barry Evans, and Jasmyn Banks, who was Alice Branning, are also part of the cast.
“None of us had ever worked together before this, which is bizarre,” she continued.
“There’s no chat about EastEnders though we are all too focused on the job at hand.”
Emma was a big fan of the production before landing the role, so she really put herself under pressure to do well at the audition.
“When you really want something and don’t get it, you’re even more gutted,” she said.
“So I made sure I knew every word and I think it just fitted with my personality. I feel so lucky to be doing this. I never thought acting would be anything more than a hobby. I’m just happy to be able to pay the bills!”
One Man, Two Guvnors is on tour and will visit the King’s in Glasgow from June 30-July 5, His Majesty’s, Aberdeen, in October and Edinburgh Festival Theatre in 2015.
