Country star team up with Fife singer after internet jamming session

Heather Dickson is a country star in the making.

A country music star paid for a Scots mum to fly to Nashville to record an album after the pair jammed over the internet.

Texan songwriter Terri Sharp flew Heather Dickson from Fife to the home of country music after the pair performed together using web phone service Skype.

The country star has also signed mum-of-one Heather to her US label Heartshake Records. The two singers arranged the jam after they got to know each other through mutual friends.

Terri, who has penned songs for Don McLean and Hank Williams Junior, played the guitar at her home in America while Heather sang in her Scots cottage 4,000 miles away.

The impromptu session was enough to convince Terri that Heather was worth investing in.

Heather, 38, then flew to Nashville to record her album with musicians who have played alongside stars such as Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette.

Heather said: “We hooked up through Skype as Terri wanted to hear me sing her song Eventually. It felt really natural and Terri said she fell in love with my voice.

“This album is a dream come true for me. I was out there for two weeks and we did the record in five days. I was in the studio for 12 hours a day. It was gruelling.”

Heather has been a regular on the Fife music scene for a number of years, playing pubs and clubs. She used to be a drummer in several rock bands before gravitating towards country music.

However the single mum, who used to work as a sales rep, has never had a big break until now.

“This is my last push to get somewhere in this industry,” she said. “I’m putting 100% into it. I’m hoping to get more gigs in Scotland and maybe even play some festivals. I really want to show off this album.”
