Beverley Craven is back in the dating game

Beverley Craven is sure her new album won’t find its way into her ex-husband’s CD collection.

Beverley, who had massive chart success in the 1990s, has given full flow to her feelings about the marriage break-up on Change of Heart.

“I always write from my life experience and I got divorced three years ago so that’s a big thing,” she told The Sunday Post.

“There’s one pretty angry song. It’s pretty strong but it’s really cathartic to get it out. You can either err on the side of caution and write something a bit insipid or you can go for the jugular.

“I don’t see the point in writing if you’re not going to write with a bit of honesty.”

Beverley, who’s just turned 51, wed musician Colin Campsie at Culcreuch Castle on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Following their split she’s been dating again, something she says has taken a bit of getting used to.

“It’s tricky, because the older you get the more complicated you get,” she confides.

“When I was dating in my 20s you’re thinking about settling down and having a family. But at my age you’ve had your family I’m definitely too old for more kids and you’re looking for something different.

“A lot of people my age are financially independent and you’re not looking for a man to support you. I think you get through relationships more quickly because you know what you want.

“I’m not seeing anyone at the moment but I feel that I’ve got back to being me now after so long being part of a couple.”

Promise Me was the global smash that set her on the way to fame, a very impressive fortune and a Brit award. But in the mid-2000s she was diagnosed with breast cancer, thankfully ultimately being given the all-clear.

“I’m fine now but I really do think that the answer lies in diet and nutrition. I have a genetic predisposition to cancer my family on my father’s side is riddled with it so I believe nutrition is critical.”

A 36-date UK tour includes appearances this month in Livingston, Glasgow and Gateshead.

“I’m so excited,” says mum-of-three Beverley. “I’m really pleased with the tracks. I don’t think I could do any better.”
