Freya Mavor Queen of Hearts

Red-hot Scots actress Freya Mavor is praying she hits the right note in the forth-coming Sunshine On Leith movie.

The film version of The Proclaimers musical will be the 19-year-old’s singing debut and butterflies are fluttering for the Edinburgh girl.

“When I was at school our drama class went to see the play to analyse it,” the Skins star told The Sunday Post. “I was about 15 or 16, sitting there giggling with a bag of sweeties.

“Now I’m in the film version and I’m really thrilled. But I am genuinely terrified about the premiere. I’m so nervous about the singing.

“I love it but I’ve never sung in public before and I’m really shy about it. It’s going to be so strange hearing myself.”

Freya’s already had a taste of a big Edinburgh red carpet premiere recently for Not Another Happy Ending, with Karen Gillan.

“I’ve been to that same theatre to see plays and had a few beers round the corner with my mates,” reveals Freya, who joins BBC’s big Sunday night drama The White Queen tonight.

“So it was weird being there to see myself on screen. I felt very lucky that it was in my home town and my family came, which was lovely.

“I was nervous at first about going on the Not Another Happy Ending set and meeting Karen, whom I’d obviously watched in Doctor Who. But she was so welcoming. She’s fun and quirky and really put me at ease.”

Freya’s got a key role in the final three episodes of the 15th Century epic. “I play the daughter of the White Queen the White Princess in many ways,” she explains. “She’s a bit of a political tool to her parents as they’re looking to get her married off to someone important.”

The drama was actually filmed in Belgium but being abroad is second nature to the former model.

She fell in love with France after the family moved there for a few years when she was younger.

And single girl Freya has now moved to Paris, carving out a successful acting career on TV over there, too.

“I find my English is awful when I’ve only been speaking French for a few days,” adds Freya, who has already filmed a French comedy show.

“But I’ve always had a fantasy of what it’d be like to live in Paris and is definitely where I think I should be at this time in my life.”
