SIR ELTON JOHN will invite fans to delve into his self-professed “crazy life” with the release of a new autobiography.
Publishers Pan Macmillan and sister company Henry Holt have confirmed they will be releasing the musician’s memoir in 2019 after they jointly acquired the rights to publish.
Sir Elton, 69, has already started writing his memoirs, on which he will work with music writer and critic Alex Petridis.
The singer said he is finding the process of writing about his “rollercoaster ride” of a life “cathartic”, despite not being one to look back into the past.
He said: “I’m not prone to being a nostalgic person. I’m often accused of only looking forward to my next gig or creative project.
“It’s come as quite a surprise how cathartic I am finding the process of writing my memoirs. As I look back, I realise what a crazy life I have had the extreme privilege of living.”
Sir Elton added: “I have grown up in a period of extraordinary change in our world – and have had the joyful honour of rubbing shoulders and working with so many of the people at the heart of these changes.
“My life has been one helluva rollercoaster ride and it’s still lumbering on. I hope readers will enjoy the ride too.”
Anthony Forbes Watson, Pan Macmillan’s managing director, said: “Sir Elton’s life transcends classification and his wildly readable, deeply human story will speak to anyone and everyone, everywhere.”
Jeremy Trevathan, Macmillan UK’s publisher, added that Sir Elton’s memoir “is a Holy Grail of book publishing”.
British singer-songwriter Sir Elton has enjoyed a successful career that has spanned five decades, during which time he has won five Grammy Awards and an Academy Award.
He has released more than 40 albums, including studio albums and soundtracks, and some of his most famous tracks include Rocket Man, I’m Still Standing and Tiny Dancer.
Sir Elton is married to Canadian film-maker and producer David Furnish and the pair have two sons, Zachary Jackson Levon and Elijah Joseph Daniel.
