Danny Miller’s smart new look

Former Emmerdale star Danny Miller has sharpened up his act by swapping soap life for the cop shop.

He’s the new boss in Scott & Bailey from this week and Danny says his character is a world away from Aaron.

“I’ve not got my trackies on any more and they’ve put me in some nice suits,” laughs Danny, who is new Detective Sergeant Rob Waddington.

“It’s a bit different to strolling on set looking like you’re just out of bed.

“Instead you’re walking on looking like you’re ready for an awards do.”

The power look is because Danny’s young copper is dressing to impress as he’s being fast-tracked through the ranks.

Having made DS at just 25 Rob finds it daunting leading a major investigation and taking charge of the seasoned detectives.

And there was more than an element of fact mirroring fiction with 22-year-old Danny joining highly respected regulars Suranne Jones, Lesley Sharp and Amelia Bullmore.

“To be honest my first day was a bit like Rob’s,” admits the Stockport-born actor.

“I finished a stint in panto on the Sunday night and on the Tuesday I was right into Scott & Bailey.

“Rob’s looking round at three powerful women who are all very strong.

“When you’re in one room with all that woman power it can be intimid-ating.

“And I was well aware of how good Suranne, Lesley and Amelia were having watched them over the years.

“They were all great but Suranne was especially helpful as she had done the same sort of thing, moving on from a soap like Corrie.

“She said it was good not to just jump at every part that’s offered, to leave the bait on the end of the stick to see what happens next.

“She’s had an amazing career so if I can have one as successful I’ll be very happy.”

Danny’s portrayal of Aaron brought a clutch of awards but he says he has no regrets about moving on from Emmerdale.

“It was incredibly exciting,” he says. “But I was devastated to leave behind what felt like a second family.

“It was almost like leaving home and it was a really sad and emotional last day.

“But I knew that if I didn’t do it and I got to 31 or 32 I’d look back and think I should have tried it when I was younger.

“I also know that you should never say never about a possible return but at the moment I’m happy.”
