Action man O-T Fagbenle had a real blast in The Interceptor

Landing the lead role in the BBC’s new cop drama was child’s play for O-T Fagbenle or at least the action scenes were.

Although O-T Fagbenle starred in American network HBO’s Looking, The Interceptor is the Londoner’s most high profile role in this country.

And he says he loved getting stuck in.

“The stunts have been exhilarating,” says O-T.

“Some of the action scenes are unlike anything I’ve ever seen in British crime shows.

“I’ve been doing a lot of my own stunt driving, fights in vats of liquid, getting smashed out of windows and smashing other people out of windows it’s like my 11-year-old self’s dream really!”

The Interceptor is an eight-part series about a state-of-the-art law enforcement team tasked with bringing down the UK’s most dangerous criminals.

O-T plays top cop Ash, with Jo Joyner and Trevor Eve also among the cast.

He admits he’d call cop friends at silly hours of the day, seeking some tips on how real officers would deal with situations.

But he says that reality hasn’t got in the way of good, old-fashioned fun.

“The Interceptor has an excitement and grittiness to it but it’s also very entertaining,” says O-T, who has cropped up previously in Doctor Who and ITV’s Marple.

“It lives in this sphere of a slightly heightened reality where although you completely identify and recognise all the characters in it, they’re fun to watch.

“You’re very curious about how they will all turn out. The action is great as well.”

The Interceptor, BBC One, Wednesday, 9pm.
