Strict Andy Murray gives mum the word

Wimbledon ace Andy Murray has told mum Judy she needs to “up her game” to stay in the Strictly dance challenge.

Judy, 55, performed a spirited Charleston with partner Anton du Beke, 48, last night but has been criticised in the previous shows for her wooden performances.

Now she’s revealed her tennis champ son has fired a volley at her, to spur her on to further success in the hit show.

Judy told The Sunday Post: “He’s told me I have to up my game and try and get through another week. He’s been telling me that all the players have been talking about it in the players’ lounge.”

After years of coaching sons Andy, 27, and Jamie, 28, mum says the boot has been on the other foot in the past week.

“Jamie’s season is finished now and he was asking if I’d been watching Charlestons on the internet, whether I’d had a massage and if I was doing everything I possibly could. He has gone into coach mode, stressing the importance of putting on a show because it gets extra points.”

Despite being the bookies’ favourite to get the boot each week, Judy has so far avoided even being in the dance-off.

She has been savaged by judge Craig Revel Horwood, 49, who has slammed her stiff posture and said she looked like she’d been lobotomised.

“I don’t need anybody to tell me I’m not a good dancer but I’m having fun and I’m not going to get upset,” said Judy. Last night’s Charleston was to “Varsity Drag” by the Pasadena Roof Orchestra.

There was an extra Scots flavour to the performance, with most of the training being done north of the Border. Judy’s mum Shirley’s homemade shortbread has become a winner among the celebrities.

“She made about six rounds this time and it was gone in no time,” said Judy, who had family backing for last night’s Strictly as Jamie was in the audience to see her perform. But Andy’s involvement in the Valencia Open meant his plans to join his brother were scuppered.
