Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ red carpet ideal for Fox hunting

Isn’t it amazing what Hollywood special effects can do?

You’ll believe a man can fly. It will seem as if a truck can transform into a robot.

They’ll convince you a boy from Glasgow is an FBI Agent in a Steven Segal movie (What do you mean you never saw Half Past Dead starring Ross “Where did he get that accent” King?).

In the latest blockbuster from Hollywood, you’ll believe man-size turtles can talk and do kung fu.

It’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, of course.

You’ll also wonder what the special effects department has done to the film’s star, the wildly attractive Megan Fox.

She gave birth to her second child six months ago, but to see her makes you think she’s had some CGI done.

How else do you explain how the young mum has gone back to having a bikini body so quickly?

I went along to the Hollywood premiere of the latest Turtles movie, which is a reboot of the old ’90s cartoon and comic phenomenon.

Megan plays April O’Neil, a telly reporter who has to work down a sewer with four crime-fighting turtles.

I’ve been a reporter for 20 years I’d be right on to the union if I were her. Megan was treading the red carpet and I got the chance to speak to her. Trust me, any teenage boy would be unbelievably jealous.

I asked her what it was like to be back on the red carpet and looking great since the birth of her second child.

“I haven’t done anything on this scale in quite a while,” she said.

“But it feels like home, so I’m glad to be back. I don’t eat carbohydrates except for those in fruits, and I eat a lot of protein and fibre.”

I guess that translates as no sneaky white pudding suppers then. The Turtles movie probably isn’t for everyone, but I thought it was a bit of fun and the kids will probably love it.

It’s produced by Transformers director Michael Bay and Megan didn’t seem perturbed to work with him again.

The pair had a falling out when Fox compared the notoriously outspoken Bay to Adolf Hitler.

A lot of spats get blown out of proportion when there’s money to be made hence the two working together again on this movie. And Megan, 28, is a fan of the show from her childhood.

I used to present on kids’ TV and we broadcast the Turtles cartoon. Thanks for making me feel old, Megan!

“I was excited that I got the opportunity to do it,” she said.

“And then there’s a part of me that’s nervous because it’s something I loved as a kid and I didn’t want to be responsible for ruining it!

“You don’t have to be fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to love this movie because it’s super-funny.

“It’s silly and light-hearted, and hard not to love. It’s big and beautiful. What else are you going to do but see this movie?”

Indeed! The film is actually quite funny. Megan’s co-star is comedian Will Arnett, who you might recognise from sitcoms such as Arrested Development and The Millers.

“He’s really funny,” said Megan. “Sometimes with comedians, they’re actually really intense in person. But Will isn’t just strictly a comedian, he’s also an actor and he’s not too heavy and introverted.

“He’s also a dad and he’s got really cute kids that would come to the set. I had a good experience with him.”

It was a hot and muggy afternoon during the Turtles’ premiere. All us red carpet crews were wilting in the heat.

I really wanted to see four wee guys dressed in turtle outfits turn up, but to no avail. While we all sweated, Megan looked absolutely cool as a cucumber.

She seems to handle the press well and, for someone who doesn’t like doing the red carpet, but she’s quite friendly.

The special effects department seemingly so important for any blockbuster these days was also singled out for praise by Megan.

“I had seen tiny little models of the Turtles on set,” she said. “But it doesn’t do justice to what Industrial Light and Magic have done. I feel like they look incredible. It made me want to dance when I saw them on film the first time.”
