Chris Hemsworth beat me to Sexiest Man Alive prize but I’ll take second spot!

Sometimes you’ve just got to accept second place.

That’s how I felt when Chris Hemsworth nicked the title of Sexiest Man Alive from me recently.

I had the chance to confront him during an interview last week and I have to concede he is slightly better looking than me.

“It was between you and me at the end there,” he said, graciously.

“We were neck-and-neck for a bit.”

Aussie Chris is one of those guys who women seem to go a bit dreamy-eyed over. Forget Christian Gray, a girl I know reckons big Chris is Fifty Shades Of Hunk.

If he was any more of a dish he’d be picking up satellite signals.

How irritating is that, lads? Disappointingly, he’s dead pleasant to chat to as well.

Chris is currently starring in a spy thriller, Blackhat, by Heat and Collateral director Michael Mann.

Life is good for 31-year-old Chris, who’s married to gorgeous actress Elsa Pataky.

All this stuff about him being handsome, though surely he must get sick of it?

“I get more cheek from my brothers and friends about it than anything else,” he laughed.

“But it’s funny. I didn’t do much to win the award for Sexiest Man I just have to thank my parents!

“I told my family and it was met with hysteria by them. It didn’t earn me the brownie points I thought I’d get.”

Ach, could be worse, Chris.

In Blackhat, Hemsworth, who plays Norse God Thor in the wildly successful Marvel superhero franchise, is a brainy hacker.

I presumed acting like a computer expert would be a bit like how I write this column just mash at the keyboard and hope for the best. But apparently it’s more complicated than that.

“Michael Mann is one of the most detailed directors,” said Chris.

“He insists on absolute truth. We did three months of computer lessons and working with experts who are FAR more intelligent than I’ll ever be.

“We immersed ourselves in computer programming and understanding the computer. It was one of the most intense things I’ve ever done.”

Chris started off with an appearance on Aussie soap Neighbours before landing a regular part in Home and Away back in 2004, and after that it was on to Hollywood.

“I wanted to be part of the films I grew up watching,” he added, “and work with those film makers I admired.

“But the soaps were great training. It was 20 scenes a day and you’ve got to make do with what you’ve got.”

For Chris, that’s just good looks and a lot of talent!
