Olive Cooke devoted her life to charity work.
Surely the saddest story of the week was that of poppy seller Olive Cooke, who raised thousands of pounds for charities she cared about but who took her own life in May this year after feeling she had let down the people she cared about.
Olive had set up 27 direct debits to charities but when they kept bombarding her for payments she felt confused and despairing.
It’s good to give.
But charities also need to realise that they too have a responsibility and that sharing is a two-way thing.
We give because we love and care about those in need, but sometimes the “givers” need to be respected need to be as respected as much as the “takers”.
We all have our needs.
Let’s recognise that.
